Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez Holds High-Level Talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi
Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez concluded a five-day visit to India after holding extensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The discussions focused on energy cooperation, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy as India increased Venezuelan oil imports to 417,000 barrels per day.
Rodríguez, who assumed the role of acting president following the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by United States forces in January 2026, engaged in wide-ranging talks focused on energy cooperation, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy.
The visit comes at a time when India is significantly increasing its purchases of Venezuelan crude oil. Venezuelan oil imports into India have reached 417,000 barrels per day, making Venezuela India’s third-largest oil supplier amid ongoing regional supply disruptions and shifting energy market dynamics.
During the discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of expanding economic and strategic cooperation across multiple sectors. The talks also explored opportunities for deeper commercial engagement, enhanced investment flows, and collaboration in healthcare, transportation infrastructure, and clean energy initiatives.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar praised Rodríguez’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation between the two nations. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the visit had generated fresh momentum in the India-Venezuela partnership and reinforced the shared objective of broadening engagement across key sectors.
The high-level meetings underscored the growing importance of India-Venezuela relations at a time of evolving global energy and economic conditions. Rodríguez’s visit is expected to further deepen cooperation and create new opportunities for collaboration in areas critical to both countries’ long-term development and strategic interests.
